Public Interest Network Litigation Program

Powerful special interests often have an inordinate amount of sway in how the decisions that affect our everyday lives are made. When this imbalance becomes detrimental to the public interest, sometimes it’s necessary to turn to the courts to obtain justice.

That’s why the Public Interest Network’s Litigation Program, a project of the Center for Public Interest Research, uses litigation to defend our country’s most important consumer, public health, and environmental protections. We engage in regulatory and administrative litigation on behalf of our members to ensure that the laws meant to benefit the public are enforced, prevent them from being gutted, and block harmful new rules and laws from being implemented. Our lawyers also file amicus briefs in cases where important consumer, public health, or environmental interests are at stake.

Our litigation work began thirty years ago when our family of organizations launched the National Environmental Law Center (NELC) to enforce anti-pollution laws and promote long-term solutions to the nation's pressing environmental problems. NELC has won over $200 million in court-ordered penalties and environmental improvements, making a real difference for our environment. Our litigation team has expanded to work on behalf of the members of the organizations in The Public Interest Network.
